ASCII: American Standard Code for Information Interchange. An older mapping of alphabetic, numeric, punctuation, and control characters to specific numeric codes for use in Computers. ASCII is a seven-bit code, having 128 positions. Extended ASCII is an 8-bit code, having 255 positions.
